About This Space
Waking Up In Dark Places

Spiritual awakening is often described as euphoric, luminous, and transcendent. Oneness.
Is that spiritual awakening, or an idea of awakening that’s easier to package and sell than the reality of the experience?
In contrast, for many, awakening begins with something very different: grief, disorientation, severance, and the slow unraveling of the life we once knew, fading into the background.
Discernment matters.
Building the capacity to discern between False Light and Holy Darkness matters.
The question, then, is, “how do we learn to discern the difference?”
If the spiritual teacher we follow has much to say about “the light, the light, the light,” yet offers little reverence for the space of Holy Darkness, are they as far along in their journey as they believe?
We don’t know what we don’t know, until we’ve experienced what’s both impossible to imagine and difficult to articulate.
Still, in honor of the known sages and unknown initiates who paved the way, to the ancestors whose ceiling became our floor, we continue on. In earnest. In effort. In the unextended reach to lift each other toward a more authentic expression of spirit.
Waking Up In Dark Places is the threshold.
The between.
The bridge between False Light and First Light.
It is Holy Darkness.
The womb.
The tomb.
The journey from what never was to what has always been.
It’s sacred.
It’s divine.
It’s both death and rebirth.
It’s the fairytale seared into the wisdom of our soul.
It’s the greatest love story never told.
Drawing on spiritual traditions, esoteric wisdom, and lived experience, this space offers a practical, 21st-century lens for transformation that doesn’t bypass grief, disorientation, or the deep, inextinguishable grit of becoming.
Whether you’re navigating loss, burnout, awakening, trauma, or simply the ache of no longer fitting in the life you once built, if you’re in the between, you’re not alone.
All darkness has a pattern.
We just have to name it to tame it.
If you’re looking for the language of that darkness, to call it by name and reclaim your power, your light, your misplaced sparks of divinity from the bottomless hunger of this world, this is the place.
This journey isn’t about fixing ourselves or anyone else.
It’s about revealing the next layer of light we’ve always been.
Welcome to Waking Up In Dark Places.
